Piola, the contemporary Italian based  pizzeria restaurant chain  also known for its art shows and exhibitions, presents its latest show of the year: U, hUman, Urban: we shape cities, cities shape us.

New York November 9th, 2006 – Piola, the contemporary Italian based  pizzeria restaurant chain  also known for its art shows and exhibitions, presents its latest show of the year: U, hUman, Urban: we shape cities, cities shape us.

“The original idea came to us one day as we saw a building renovation crew coming out of a building and getting ready to throw away some blueprints that was labeled  trash” – Says Dante Carniato, one of Piola’s founders – “As we saw this, we interpreted it as a symbolic change from an old to a new city.  When  we looked deeper into this idea, we realized that the  theme of urban change is of great current interest, as a matter of fact, this year the Biennale di Venezia,  a prestigious Italian cultural institution in Venice, a city very close to Piola’s headquarter, is addressing this theme as well. We felt we could tackle the argument from our point of view:  Piola is known as a meeting place in many of the World’s largest cities, such as New York and  Sao Paulo.

More than half of the World’s population lives now in cities, when only a century ago only 10% of the population lived in urban areas. According to several experts, this number could increase to 75%  by 2050. 

Piola’s exhibition aims to expose the dynamics  between the changing city and the changing individual:  as cities change, so does the human race, each feeds on the other in good and bad ways, the only sure thing is that this relationship is inevitable: cities, like the human race, tend to survive for very long time if not forever, they are the companions of the human race’s evolution.

The exhibition will begin November 15th with a reception between 6 to 8PM and will run through December 11th, 2006
