Piola New York presents Rudolf Kohn´s last exhibition: CITY OF LOVE. Rudolf’s work is a collection of his usual paintings, inspired by urban art, along with new elements such as strong graphic fundamentals, combined with the caricature of his characters and the explosive use of colors, becoming what it might be the next image of pop art.
Kohn came to New York to show his unique and exclusive style, his work can be seeing on the Piola Restaurant, from October 3 to November 6, 2007. The invitation stands for everyone who wants to enjoy a modern and elegant atmosphere on the Piola. The celebration of this artist’s last collection starts on the premiere night, WENESDAY OCTOBER 3RD, starting at 6:00pm until 9:00pm; witch gives the opportunity to meet Rudolf Kohn in person.
Kohn is an artist who’s aesthetic and social motivations move in a wide path of tones, accents and symbols that in spite of its differences always rotate around the perception of demystifying the current culture. His characters seem to be an alter ego revealed in the shape of a mask or precedence’s, however a certain compassionate lyricism is some times expose, which completes the other side of the irony. This is why some of his scenes can be grotesque and others can give an image of overwhelming helpless in dehumanized atmospheres, where even a flower seems artificial.
Somehow the irony of this situation moves the artist, condition that is shown in its high level of commitment with the subject, and with his identification with these beings that transmuted by its imagination become symbols of the human condition.
This new series of paints called “city of love”, had been inspired on the motion that we are living in a new world full of social and ecological awareness. This new horizon is shown by the artist using big formats in colorfully landscapes. Also the abundance of eyes meaning the importance to the artist of his own spirituality, show what is best capture in a sentence; the presence of the absence.
