Although KLM’s paintings remain mostly abstract, she references objects that resemble water, fences, sky, rocks, meat, body, and plants. KLM has spent time living in the countryside and also New York City. The imagery includes some of the more subtle lines of country and the concrete structure of the city. The creation of these paintings includes putting unexpected objects together in an environment and to see how they interact with each other. The use of paint plays a vital role for KLM, because paint’s complexity is hard to control and always leads to surprises that come out in her work. All these elements combined give off the sense of spontaneity and mystery to this series.
KLM is a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts and her artwork has been featured in groups exhibitions including 8th Annual Abstraction International Art Exhibition at the Upstream People Gallery (Omaha, NE) and Arts Abroad: France, Italy, Spain at the School of Visual Arts Westside Gallery. At Greenfield Community College, she received the Medici Award and Archibald MacLeish Award for exceptional work in the arts.
