Anya Getter was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, and immigrated to the United States in 1991. She settled in Arlington right away, and now considers herself a native Arlingtonian.
Anya has always been drawn to art, and even though her full time job is in IT field, creating artwork is where her soul is.
Anya was attracted to art since she could hold a crayon, and while not having formal education in art she attended numerous classes and workshops. Anya is a member of Arlington Artist Alliance, and her work is being displayed at different venues in Arlington with great success.
My art is a way for me to inject my inner-world of emotions and imagination into physical realm of our everyday lives. I am drawn to bright colors, patterns and various textures, which I love to mix and match on my canvas to reflect a particular mood or a feeling. I usually draw my inspiration from words – be it a beautiful poem, a meaningful quote, or a popular sayings. That’s why you will likely find a lot of writing in my work. Each piece is done in layers, which I believe better reflects the complexity and depth of our emotions, thoughts or experiences. I am grateful to my patrons for inspiring my work and sharing their insights with me which in turn enrich my world and find their way back into the canvas. I have heard many people say that every time they look at my painting they discover something new that may have been hidden from them before. The painting almost seems to change with the viewer as his or her feelings and emotions change and fluctuate throughout our daily lives.
I am excited to exhibit my art at Piola – I love the vibe of the place, and I love the fact that it’s located in my “hometown”.
