Biography
The artist known as Betirri was born in 1982 and grew up in the city of Puebla, Mexico. He moved with his family to the
United States to Houston, Texas in the summer of 1997. He resides in Houston and enjoys the international capacity and
flair the city has developed over the last 15 years. While he derives inspiration from several genres, Houston’s diversity
of culture and expansive global economy impact his art and style. After obtaining his Associate’s Degree from Houston
Community College in 2002, he studied abroad in Castiglion Florentino, Italy in the summer of 2005. This trip was very
influential in the development of his artistic style and cultural perspective in architecture and included travel to Germany
and Switzerland. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 2007 from the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture.
Satisfied with his training in Architecture, Betirri recognized the value of training a natural ability in art to add to his talent
in design. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from The School of Fine Arts at the University of Houston
in 2009. Following his formal education, Betirri has traveled and shared his art throughout the United States, Europe and
Latin America.
The Futbol Series: TIMELESS. COLORFUL. MOTION
Betirri’s Futbol Series is a contemporary, surrealistic collection of paintings that refer to “The Beautiful Game,” known
in the United States as Soccer and in the rest of the world as Futbol. He paints a TIMELESS representation of futbol that
displays emotion and rhythm into a form of the game that is unique in its perspective. Futbol is known worldwide for its
passionate love to kick the ball and finish a goal! Each country is represented by distinct uniforms and colors. Futbol does
not concern itself with race, gender, age, politics, religion or economics, just like art. This series displays moments in football
matches over balls, space and control by animated, COLORFUL uniforms, gracefully depicting the game that knows
no bounds. The absence of persons, allows focus on the drama and emotion of each team without a particular player’s
existence to cloud the classic juxtaposition of the match-ups. This series encompasses the game, teams, countries, colors
and flags that we were raised to support and love. The detail in its MOTION is anything but uniform as the rich, transparent
background suspends the game in time and space, as if each turning point is captured in this medium for an instant.
